White Christmas
This classic Christmas song was written by Irving Berlin (Israel Beilin, 1888-1989) for the 1942 movie musical Holiday Inn, starring Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds. Berlin's song won the 1942 Academy Award for song of the year. Crosby also sang it in Blue Skies (1946) and as the title song in White Christmas, the 1954 remake of Holiday Inn. According to ASCAP, “White Christmas” is the most recorded Christmas song of all time, with over 500 different versions. Although the Bing Crosby rendition is by far the most popular, over 150 musical artists have recorded the song since 1942. The song has been translated into many languages, including German.
